Altea and Surroundings
The tourist lineup in Altea is highly varied indeed. In addition
to fun and sun on the beaches, Altea has unbeatable sports
facilities, such as marinas, golf courses, tennis courts and
a sports complex with an Olympic swimming pool.
The lineup includes scuba diving, sailing, jet skiing, water
skiing, surfing, windsurfing, fishing, etc. The climate in
this Mediterranean area enables you to practice water sports
throughout the year in any in the nearby marinas, such as
the Altea Yacht Club and the Luis Campomanes Sports Marina.
Golf enthusiasts have 12 courses to choose from, of note
among which is the Don Cayo Golf Club, with 9 holes and located
less than five minutes from the Altea Hills Estate. Two additional
18-hole courses will soon be opened within the Terra Mítica
theme park complex.
There are many facilities for tennis playing in the area,
such as the Altea Hills Estate Tennis Club, with four beaten-earth
courts, in addition to squash and paddle-tennis courts.
Altea is the perfect place for other sports as well such
as horse riding, trekking, mountain climbing, pelunking, cycling,
delta wing, football, etc. and there are a wide variety of
sports complexes with swimming pools, Jacuzzis, saunas, gyms,
etc., of note among which is the Altea Hills Estate Social
Club.

Hypermarkets, banks, 24-hour medical assistance, schools,
and much more… Altea has a complete lineup for shopping
and services.
The shopping area in town is around Avenida Jaume I and
the street called Conde de Altea, where you can find all kinds
of shops: supermarkets, boutiques, shoe shops, banks, jewellers,
flower shops… and in the industrial estate called Polígono
Industrial de la Partida Cap Blanc, you can find car dealers,
furniture stores, toy shops, etc. Special mention should be
given to the antique and home decoration shops in streets
around the town centre.
The weekly flea market or street market is held in Altea
every Tuesday. Here you can find all kinds of products, from
fruit and vegetables all the way through to clothes and toys
at reasonable prices. Also popular are the fresh fish auction
in the port of Calpe and the antiques market in Jalón,
which is held on Saturday mornings.
Altea has a wide array of cash dispensers around town, and
a number of savings and merchant banks, both domestic and
foreign, providing customers with all kinds of banking services.
For health services, Altea has a range of chemists, public
outpatients centre providing medical and specialist services,
a health centre and a wide array of veterinary centres. And
just a few kilometres away are the Benidorm Specialist Health
Centre and the Villajoyosa Hospital.
Another feature of this part of the Costa Blanca is that
residents can choose from a variety of public and private
schools, either Spanish or bilingual. The most well known
are the international schools Lope de Vega and Costa Blanca,
in Benidorm, and the English Sierra Bernia School, in Alfaz
del Pi.
